Style Me Vintage: Accessories

I know this is probably old news as the book's been out a while now, but I have got my hands on a copy of Style Me Vintage Accessories. I thought I'd do a very quick review, just in case anyone has been living under a rock and hasn't read one already. The book is in the same series as Style Me Vintage, which I reviewed (kind of) some time ago. I quite often refer to Style Me Vintage if I'm short of outfit inspiration, or need new ideas for hair.

I think my outfits are sometimes a bit lacking as far as accessories go, so it's always good to get some new ideas of what accessories to buy and how to wear them.

The book covers all kinds of accessories: hats and headpieces, gloves, shoes, costume jewellery, handbags and purses, eyewear, scarves, and miscellaneous items. The sections are organised by type of accessory, rather than by decade. The history of each type of accessory is covered, along with labels to shop for, popular styles and shapes for each decade, and tips and how-tos.

There are also 'Brand Spotlight' sections with further information about large name brands, such as for Rayne, and Delman brand shoes as shown below. Lastly there is a section with a variety of recommended shops, including both vintage shops and reproduction.

I really enjoyed reading through the book. As with the other Style Me Vintage books this would make a great coffee table book, and I think it has a lot to offer even if you're well used to wearing vintage and are knowledgeable in the area. I picked up a lot of new information that I didn't know about many of the brands that are featured - I really liked the addition of the brand spotlight sections which weren't featured in Style Me Vintage. Overall a great addition to any vintage-lover's collection.

  1. what a pretty book. i just love how helpful books and things about wearing vintage are getting so popular! I have to admit that finding accessories and then remembering to wear them is not something that i'm too good at, so maybe i should get this book. :) thanks for the review.

  2. That sounds like a really great book to have hanging around the house. I'm not always the best about accessorizing either, and it would be great to have something like that around to turn to for inspiration.

  3. Oh! Thanks for the reminder that I need to pick myself up a copy of this!

Like you, I use the other books for inspiration when I feel like I've done the same ol' same ol' for so long, especially with regards to hair.
